OUR VISION
To see each person become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Our Core Beliefs
We believe there is one God who is the loving creator and sustainer of everything. God reveals God’s self to us—to all of humanity—in many ways, but the truest, most shocking, and most amazing way that God revealed God’s self to humanity was by becoming one of us (a real human being), and walking among us, living a life of humble service to humankind in which he displayed and taught radical love and compassion. This was the person known as Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus, the Christ, who lived about 2,000 years ago in the area of the world that is now called Palestine. Jesus’s ministry was all about caring for the hungry and sick, the poor and the powerless, and he also reached out to those that had been harmed by both the political and religious power structures of the time—affirming those persons’ worth as human beings created and loved by God.
During his life, Jesus gained many loyal followers. To his followers, Jesus was a great teacher, mentor, and a friend, and they were fully bought into his program of humble service and radical love and compassion for the whole world. Once Jesus was gone, and still inspired by him, his followers, later called the Church or Christians, carried his ministry on by continuing to display and teach the radical love and compassion they’d learned from Jesus. By doing this, the Church continued to gain new followers for Jesus from all walks of life, so it also took on the role of teaching and mentoring followers of Jesus and became an inclusive community where all are encouraged and genuine friendship thrives.
What we are committed to at Mooresville Free Methodist Church today, then, is the same thing the followers of Jesus were committed to from the start. We are an inclusive community that believes in humble service to humankind and teaching and displaying radical love and compassion. This is a place where those who have never made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ are lovingly encouraged to do so. This is a place where genuine friendship thrives. Here, those who may be new to following Jesus are gently encouraged and taught by those who may have followed him longer, but who are still humbly learning and growing themselves. Unsure if you belong here? Everyone is welcome at Mooresville Free Methodist Church, period. We acknowledge the worth of all human beings as persons created and loved by God. This is a safe place to be yourself while you learn about Jesus Christ and explore what it means to be one of his followers.
There’s still more to the story. Jesus’s life ended when he was executed as a criminal, but God brought him back to life three days later. This means several things. For one thing, it means that being a follower of Jesus is not easy—it can mean sacrificing a lot. But it also means that the values that Jesus taught, and that the Church still teaches, are not fleeting but are everlasting. And, thankfully, God doesn’t leave us on our own on our journey as Jesus’s followers, but God’s own Spirit, called the Holy Spirit, inspires us, teaches us, guides us, and even corrects us along the way, and we have a collection of writings inspired by God, known as the Bible, that does the same. Finally, God promises an everlasting existence free from all suffering for those who believe in God and commit their lives to following the way of Jesus.
